About EPA

The mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is to protect human health and the environment.  Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people.  The Radon Program is a voluntary program within the Office of Radiation and Indoor Air (ORIA).  EPA encourages people to take action to minimize their risk from radon, including testing and mitigating their homes, and building new homes radon resistant.  In addition, EPA provides funding support for states to conduct radon programs and for non-profit entities to reach targeted segments of the public.
