Call to Action To Reduce Lung Cancer from Radon in American Homes

Stakeholders in healthy affordable housing have a prime opportunity to ensure our homes do not expose occupants to radon, a widespread and deadly carcinogen. Managing radon risk is a key component of ensuring a healthy home.

Radon causes over 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.

Radon Measurement Studies Sought

Studies Sought

Seeking to review and/or create a reference bibliography of independent radon measurements studies (from 2000 on) conducted and published in the United States documenting home radon measurements in relationship to real estate transactions/home sales versus other motivators or events that lead to a radon test.

Any state, tribe, or territorial data, or other documented studies from independent (public or private) authors, researchers, or reporting mechanisms. Published studies or research should be in the public domain or may be copyrighted (but should be available for purchase or public review and reference if held privately.)

AARST Seeking Proposals for Presentations at the 2011 International Radon Symposium

1. Opening Day Plenary Proposals (due April 27, 2011)

The opening day of the International Radon Symposium is a joint plenary session held in cooperation with the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). AARST invites proposals, by April 27, for presentations that address common needs of radon professionals in private practice and the public sector.

Proposals should be 250 words or less and:

a. clearly state the significance and impact of the topic on the national and/or international radon community;
b. list proposed presenters;
c. state recommended time for presentation;
d. list the name and contact information of the individual submitting the proposal; and
e. be submitted electronically in Word (.doc) format to director@aarst.org

with "Opening Day Plenary Proposal" listed in the message subject line.

2010 International Radon Symposium Call for Papers

2010 International Radon Symposium - Call for Papers

­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­AARST’s 2010 International Radon Symposium (October 17-20, 2010 in Columbus Ohio) will provide an opportunity to share ideas and to facilitate a worldwide exchange of information regarding radon in air, water and soils. AARST welcomes the participation of members of the scientific and medical community, radon testers, diagnosticians, mitigators, educators, public policy leaders and business leaders as well as consumers, both nationally and internationally.

Abstracts: Your abstract should convey in 150 words or less the essence of the intended paper, clearly indicating the contribution it will make. Abstracts will be screened by the Symposium Program Committee.

Original research, including policy and business-related papers, are especially encouraged in the following areas:
1. Cost-effectiveness of radon policy and program options

2. Radon risk assessment including:

AARST welcomes the participation of members of the scientific and medical community, radon testers, diagnosticians, mitigators, educators, public policy leaders and business leaders as well as consumers, both nationally and internationally.

Original research, including policy and business-related papers, are especially encouraged in the following areas:

  • Radon devices

2009 International Radon Symposium Abstracts

Dr. James Burkhart, AARST’s Symposium Proceedings Editor, is pleased to announce that twelve Abstracts have been accepted and are being scheduled for presentation at the 2009 International Radon Symposium in St Louis, MO, September 20-23, 2009, subject to peer-review of the full papers by the AARST Technical and Science Committee.

The AARST Symposium Program Committee will consider the acceptance of late abstract submissions up until June 17, 2009 if they meet the following criteria:
