On January 6, 2009 NNEPA Radon staff conducted an outreach on recommending Radon Resistant New Construction for home site lease request from tribal community members. Tribal members are given a packet when they fill out an application so the NNEPA Radon program will be allowed to attach information on RRNC. At the same time we recommended that thier new Head Start Center have mitigation installed in thier foundation.

With National Radon Action Month upon us already, it’s an ideal time to take a moment to step back and think about your program goals, assess the progress you’ve already made toward those goals, and how you envision achieving that success in the future.
The Radon Program will host the seventh annual radon networking day. The day allows radon partners to learn about successful programs and funding opportunities.
NNEPA Radon staff will be conducting outreach in four communites in the Four Corners area. Homes that were constructed with mine waste will be demolished and new homes will be constructed. The new homes will be built with New Radon Resistant Construction and also installed with an USEPA certified wood stove at the recommendation of the NNEPA Radon Program. Outreach will be conducted to 13 families.
The IEMA Radon program will present information about radon at this prostate cancer support group.

Partnering with Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Propgram (RESEP) from Flagstaff, Arizona.. NNEPA Radon program participation will be geared for the Dine' audience who are affected by radiation exposure due to nuclear bomb testing in Nye, Nevada during the 50’s and early sixties. Also to translate to the elderly who do not speak or understand english. Outreach will be conducted in the conference room at Winslow Indian Health Service, on Tuesday, January 27th from 1-3 p.m. RESEP is designed to screen and detect cancer caused by nuclear bomb testing. Also the program helps those individuals who have contracted cancer, file for government compensation available.
Will be conducting outreach for parent night for Sawmill Head Start Center. This event will focus on Radon and the risks of radon. We will be taking our Indoor Air Quality house for demonstration on how mitigation is constructed. Parents do not want thier Head Start Center shut down due to environmental violations that they don't understand. Will be handing out promotional items and some radon canisters if they want to test thier homes.
January is National Radon Action Month! Test, Fix, Save a Life!
The 2009 annual National Radon Action Month ceremony is being held at the National Press Club (http://npc.press.org/), 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20045, on Wednesday, January 28th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The event recognizes individuals and organizations that have contributed to radon risk reduction, and to raise awareness and spur broader public action to reducing the risk of lung cancer.
This event is sponsored by the National Safety Council (NSC) and its partners, the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD), the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the U.S. EPA and many others. In addition to the leadership of these organizations, a several state legislators are expected to attend.
The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA),
in cooperation with the United States Environmental
Protection Agency, Indoor Environments Division, is offering another
significant training opportunity for environmental health professionals
working in city, county, or state health or environmental
protection agencies in FALL 2009. EXACT DATE TBA.
NEHA is providing a comprehensive,
2½-day training course that is designed to reflect the new
national priorities in addressing indoor air quality and health
impacts resulting from IAQ contaminants. Specifically, material
on asthma triggers, environmental tobacco smoke, mold
spores, and radon will be presented along with supporting
resource material. The course will be taught by recognized
authorities in the indoor air field with a focus on presenting
the latest health impact data and remediation strategies.
