Recently I had a discussion with a photographer I met about
conservation of photos. Much to my suprise, she told me that digital
photos begin to degrade in quality after 5-7 years! This brought to
mind the speaker at the 2007 AARST Symposium who uses CD's and CD-ROM's
to predict radon concentrations if he knows how long the CD has been
exposed in the environment. I'm betting this is the same reason the
photos degrade. In effect, the CD, DVD, or memory card fares much the
same as the plastic disk in an alpha-track detector.
What do you think?
