CRCPD’s National Conference Awards First and Second Place to Radon Posters

At the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) 51st annual meeting, held in Anchorage, Alaska, in May, the winning poster was “Working with Builders in Radon Resistant New Construction: A Florida Case Study.” The poster was presented by staff of Florida Health. Introduction, Background, Methods, Data Analysis, and Conclusions were presented. The data concluded that Radon Resistant New Construction was largely effective in reducing radon. The subject area was Tallahassee, Florida, with measurements from a home using short-term and continuous monitoring.

Second place was awarded to Colorado for “Colorado Low Income Radon Mitigation Assistance Program.” The poster was presented by Chrystine Kelley. The poster describes the radon awareness and education and low income assistance initiatives that were established by the Colorado Legislature in 2016 and 2017. The poster describes the timeline and current statues of these activities. Pre-mitigation test range was 4 pCi/L to 43.7 pCi/L. Post mitigation measurements were <0.3 pCi/L to 3.9 pCi/L. A total of 43 homes were mitigated with 22 in process currently.
