Nevada Video Informs about Radon Testing

by Margaret Henderson

The Nevada Radon Education Program has produced a video on radon and testing a home for radon. The video begins with a comparative chart of radon health risks and the EPA Radon Zone Map and Map of Nevada Radon Levels. The EPA suggest that 1 in 15 homes in the US has an elevated radon level and in Nevada, test results have indicated that 1 in 4 homes has elevated radon levels.

Megan Long with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Radon Education Program narrates the video and discusses the dangers of radon, how radon may occur and how to test a home. She explains the effects of radioactive particles on lungs, how radon gets into a home and the particular of testing for radon. Ms. Long demonstrates how to test a home, and explains the use of screening testing and interpretation of test results.

The website with this video also gives written information on testing and obtaining test kits. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTYWPkFgBX4 and https://www.unce.unr.edu/programs/sites/radon/testing/#testkit
