Nevada Radon Fact Sheet Highlights

The Nevada Radon Education Program, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Radon Fact Sheet, provides a summary of radon activities in Nevada.The sheet highlights test results, activities and accomplishments of the Program.

Testing information summary notes:

· 26% of homes tested have elevated radon levels.

· One in four homes tested in Nevada had elevated levels (greater than 4.0 pCi/L).

· Data collection period - 1989 to June 30, 2018.

The Program has worked to include radon in the 2016‐2020 Nevada State Cancer Plan. The Plan addresses the prevention of lung cancer with a radon goal, objectives and activities toward increasing the number of homes tested, number of homes mitigated, and number of homes built using radon‐resistant new construction techniques.

The Program involves partnerships, including:

· Requesting and receiving National Radon Action Month proclamations from county and city governments, general improvement districts, county associations and the Governor’s office

· Partnering with other cancer‐minded or community organizations (county and state agencies, radon professionals, libraries, etc.) to post flyers, distribute test kits or sponsor presentations

· Supporting local businesses offering radon measurement and mitigation services through public information and outreach efforts

The program is supported by the EPA and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (NDPBH) and the University of Nevada.
