Highlights of the NYS Radon Stakeholders Meeting in October

The annual NYS Radon Stakeholders meeting was held on October 10, at the Traditions at the Glen, in Johnson City, New York. There were 54 stakeholders in attendance made up of county health department staff, home inspectors and radon testers and mitigators. AARST held training sessions on October 7,8, and 9th ahead of the meeting. Training course topics covered were: Multi Family Measurement, Multi-Family Mitigation and the Mechanics of Radon.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lane Mathis Price, MD, was unable to travel and present the keynote address, “Past, Present and Future”. George Schambach, NY President, American Association Radiation Scientists and Technologists delivered the presentation that she prepared.

· Environmental Laboratory Approval Program Q & A Session

· Environmental Public Health Tracking

· USDA Single Family Housing Loan & Grant Programs

George Schambach, NY American Association Radiation Scientists and Technologists provided AARST updates, Department of Health staff provided updates on their radon program and the Healthy Neighborhoods project. The Central NY Coalition for Healthy Indoor Air co-hosted this meeting and provided updates. Janise Palmer, EPA Region II, also provided updates and shared information.
