JoAnne Brown Interview - Bringing Radon Education and Awareness to the Classroom

JoAnne Brown, a science teacher at Olympus Junior High School in Holladay, UT, has enjoyed unprecedented success involving her students in the National Radon Poster Contest. On January 15, 2010, JoAnne accompanied her student Emily Pinnock to the National Radon Poster Contest Awards Luncheon in Washington, DC, where Emily was honored as the national second place winner. Just three years ago, another one of JoAnne’s students – Emily’s older sister Rachel – was also recognized as a National Radon Poster Contest winner!

NRAM 2010 - Radon Professionals Saving Lives Webinar Screencast

On January 7, 2010, the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST) hosted a webinar titled, National Radon Action Month 2010 – Radon Professionals Saving Lives.

The webinar provided information and tools for radon professionals to take an active role in radon outreach during National Radon Action Month and beyond. Watch the webinar to learn about leveraging EPA’s innovative radon media campaigns, engaging your local media, and accessing tools and templates from AARST with the goal of raising radon awareness in your community. This information will empower radon professionals to spread the message of awareness and testing year-round.

Radon Tee: World Trek 2010 Webinar Screencast

On Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Cancer Survivors Against Radon (CanSAR) and EPA hosted an informational webinar on the Radon Tee: World Trek 2010 (Radon Tee) project. The webinar served as a kick off for the Radon Tee project. The project's leaders also shared their vision and goals for Radon Tee in 2010.

National Radon Action Month Webinar Screencast

On October 20, 2009, EPA hosted a webinar titled, New Radon Outreach Tools for January 2010 and Beyond.

The webinar provided the latest news and tools to help radon stakeholders prepare for National Radon Action Month, and conduct radon outreach year-round. Watch the webinar to receive an update on National Radon Program Services now run by Kansas State University (formerly run by the National Safety Council), hear how the industry professionals of AARST are conducting radon outreach, learn about innovative media campaigns that are being led by EPA, and watch a demonstration of the new NRAM activity submittal process on RadonLeaders.org.

EPA Region 4 - 2009 Radon Grants & Planning Meeting

US EPA Region 4 hosted its 2009 Radon Grants and Planning meeting August 17-19, 2009 in Atlanta, GA. The meeting provided an opportunity for US EPA Region 4 to discuss several issues with its SIRG grantees, including the Region 4 mapping effort, state outreach programs, grants management, and new Web tools and resources.
