Colleagues,

Recently, I received a copy of a letter from resident of a recently built home expressing concern to her county health department, building code official, and mayor about elevated indoor radon (over 200 pCi/L), subsequent extremely difficult mitigation process, and the need for radon control requirements in building codes.

I believe the letter offers a very strong testimony to the importance of radon prevention in new construction. The author of the letter has given permission to distribute the correspondence and it follows.

Very nice spot on KBVC in NV. Adrian does a fantastic job. All messages nailed, even granite. A few shots of the EPA lab in LV

Question on Dust and Radon

Question on Dust and Radon

I need a refresher course in the mechanism of how radon gets into the lungs.

I just had a client ask "does the amount of dust in my home's indoor air influence the level of radioactive exposure to the lungs?" Knowing that radon attaches to dust particles, it would seem that the more dust present, the more radon-laced dust particles one would inhale. Is this a fair assessment?

I await your learned responses.

Thanks, Ginger

See the notice below for EPA's CARE program. At least one CARE community in the past has focused on radon as their primary issue.

By now, we are all aware that some granite emits enough radon to raise indoor concentrations. A client with Jupurana Bordeaux had 3x the radon in her kitchen as she had in her bedroom at the far end of the house. This was an older coastal California home, built with little insulation or weatherstripping. It's a bit unnerving to think what the same granite could have done in a modern, well sealed home.

Hello Everyone- I recently received an email from a homeowner and a mitigator on a difficult mitigation job. This is a home in the mountains of Colorado. Any ideas and/or suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Here are the details from the homeowner:
